How Chic Planner is transforming the art of
wedding planning in Bangkok
If there is one name in the wedding planner game that every bride with style most dreams about, it is his.
In the business of wondrous weddings for 13 years now, Chic Planner is one of the most renowned wedding planners in the Bangkok luxury wedding industry, offering some of the most exclusive and extraordinary services — though ‘services’ is hardly the half of it. Going beyond mere decor and organisation, Chic Planner is about experiences, about memories, and about dancing a fine ballet between dream and reality. An endlessly refined reel within his picturesque portfolio is imminent proof thereof.
We recently sat down with Suriya ‘Kung’ Krutthong, or Mr. Chic himself, to talk all things wedding planning, from transformative arts to the rise in LGBT weddings, and the paramount importance of fresh flowers. Read on and immerse yourself into the fantasy, and be mindful not to fall a head over a heel as you go along.

What sets Chic Planner apart from many other wedding planners not only in Thailand but around the world, is his exclusive clientele. The bold and bright Bangkokian does not accept any walk-in customers, but prefers rather to dedicate his time wholly and entirely through appointments made in advance at his headquarters. This allows for a beautifully bespoke service and planning process. His clients are those who strive for the ‘extra’ in ‘extraordinary’, and are willing to dream big to achieve this. Like the fresh roses he adores, Chic Planner is very much a unique and handpicked wedding planner by many.
Whilst the company was founded over 13 years ago, its success and prominence is only rising, especially now. As the wedding planner puts it, “weddings are no longer just about the bride, just about the dress, or just about the photos. It is the full experience, the ambiance, the setting — every moment, every sense. More and more people are waking up to this.”
Bring the Drama
Granted, whilst the experience is what deems Chic Planner a place in the Weddings Hall of Fame, it is his impressive transformation of space that draws in an endless number of admirers. These have allowed the company to take on projects even out of the country, making Chic Planner a truly global service.
The creative process begins with a discussion with bride-, groom-, and families-to-be, before a concept is agreed upon. Each concept is entirely tailor-made and unique to each project, and whilst there is plenty of room for compromises, Chic Planner emphasises that it is essential he leave his splendid signature on each project. It is such for which he is so recognised.
Not one to hold back on grandeur and glamour, Chic Planner conducts both wedding decoration and wedding transformation. The latter has earned the wedding planner great acclaim, often remodelling entire spaces into real marvels of design and decadence. The results are insane manifestations, as Mr. Chic has become internationally renowned for his crazy conversions of space. A true wow-effect for anyone who enters his venues, Chic Planner knows how to create a whole new mystical universe for its clients. Spaces are turned from halls and ballrooms to completely unrecognisable and entirely outstanding and elaborate mini worlds; something which is extremely unique about the Bangkok wedding planner, and something really special for those who seek the one-of-a-kind.
It’s in the Details
Beyond the more obvious grandeur, this does not mean Chic Planner does not sport fine and impeccable attention to detail. In fact, the smaller accents are where the Bangkok wedding planner most sparkles.
Mr. Chic prides himself in using fresh flowers, and fresh flowers only. “We use only the finest materials, and the freshest flowers, from petal to petal. The scent is also very important; after all, a wedding experience is about indulging all five senses, not just the one.”
From a sea of flickering tea lights to a blanket of shimmering gemstones, we were intrigued by where and how he finds inspiration. “I watch movies, admire art and flowers, read design books, and travel abroad to seek inspiration. It is all around, you just need to pick which select elements to draw upon.”
Sights to Behold
Covering countless celebrities, A-listers, and even royalty, the client list of Chic Planner is long and impressive, from the wedding of Bitoey to DJ Man, to the very recent marriage of Taya Rogers to Mika Chunuonsee. Nevertheless, name-dropping is mundane to the Bangkok wedding planner, and entirely unnecessary. His work speaks — if not sings — volumes for itself.
He describes to us one of his more recent projects, where the couple he was working with had a love for the Harry Potter universe. Using this feat as the inspiration, the wedding space was entirely transformed into a sensational Hogwarts of sorts. “To imitate floating candles, we used hanging crystals, and mystical animations. There were many charming gimmicks, whilst still maintaining an elegant flair.” It is a fine balance between innovation and beauty, and proof of a transition in trends to modern times. Whilst he swoons deeply for the beauty of nature, the Bangkok wedding planner does not shy away from using state-of-the-art technologies, and playing with animations and interactive light fixtures to transform a space with digital detail.
The wedding industry is an interesting one, especially at this time, pulling away to a slight break from tradition in many ways. It is both a challenge and a driving force for Chic Planner, who embraces change like icing on the (wedding) cake. “Newlyweds nowadays are more open-minded and more willing to do something different when it comes to planning their big day.”
Another spike more commonly spotted is the rise in LGBT weddings. The wedding planner proudly and boldly holds several of these to his name, embracing a new and growing clientele and the exciting opportunities they pull into the story.
There was a time when it was questioned why there was even a need for a wedding planner, and whilst the answer can lie anywhere between time, organisation, and societal pressures, the enquiry does not exist for Chic Planner. Granted, his business dedicates the time, manages the organisation, and knows how to convey a grand image, yet people come to him for far more than that. Beyond wedding planning, he is the curator of a spectacle, even if just for one evening, the magnificent maker of a memorable, modern-day fairytale.
As we end our rendezvous seated beneath a grand chandelier within Khun Kung’s own office, we ask him for a final piece of advice he’d offer soon-to-be brides and grooms. “Always keep an open mind. Everything happens for a reason, and anything can be fixed. Remember, everything stems from love.”
